In September I updated the sound installation at the Piano Mill; this involves a motion-sensing speaker on each of 3 levels of the Mill. Each speaker is loaded with an SD card of sound files. There are 35 tracks in total, of me improvising on the Pianos currently housed in the Mill.
All up there is about 70 minutes of sound, which plays and overlaps depending on the movement of visitors to the building.
The original version, Mill Mantras I, focused on the most unusual sounds made by the ageing pianos in the building, while this new version is more diverse in response to the activities taking place on the site as a whole.
It takes at least 20 mins for any sound file to be repeated.
